The mission of the Somerset ISD is to provide quality educational experiences
for all students to achieve their full potential.

Mission Statement

The mission of Somerset ISD Food Service is to ensure students are provided a nutritious breakfast and lunch every day. Our department is committed to preparing and serving meals that are appealing to kids as well as nutritious. We have contracted with the Texas Department of Agriculture to participate in the National School Lunch Program, the Breakfast Program, the After-School Snack Program and the Summer Feeding Program as well as adhering to the strict guidelines of the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy. We also contract with the USDA to provide commodities and fresh fruits and vegetables for our program.

Our food service department will achieve this mission through the following activities:

Preparing and serving nutritious meals to our students daily, following the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy as prescribed by the state of Texas.
Offering a variety of foods to our students to encourage them to try new items.
Providing assistance to our families in qualifying for free and reduced meals.
Serving portion size quality foods at a minimal cost to our parents and students.
Providing nutritional information to our families when requested.

Our mission will be achieved by the all members of our team displaying the following supportive behaviors:

1. Have all stakeholders work cooperatively together to achieve our common goal.

2. Work together as a team to encourage our students to make healthy food choices.

3. Analyze all menus to assure we are meeting the nutritional guidelines as prescribed.

4. Utilize USDA commodities when available.

5. Purchase all food and non-food from approved vendors at reduced costs.

6. Be prepared each day to serve our students.
